Membership

Membership to Eastern Veterans Cycling Club is open to any individual who meets ‘veterans’ status.  Veteran being defined as a female over the age of 30 or a male over the age of 35, the age being taken as that at the birthday in the year of membership.  A male turning 35 in November of this year attains ‘veterans’ status January first of this year and is eligible to join a Veterans club.

Memberships for the following year are generally opened in the October of the current year.
NOTE: Even though memberships are open 3 months prior to the start of the year, and anybody can obtain a licence at that time, members cannot commence racing until the year they turn 30 (women) or 35 (men).  So if you are a male who turns 35 in January next year, you can join the club from October but will not be permitted to race until 1/1 of next year.

Being affiliated with the Australian Veterans Cycling Council (AVCC) a member of Eastern Veterans Cycling Club is entitled to race with any other club that is affiliated with the AVCC as well as at open events organised by an affiliated state body.  Members are also entitled to compete in their state titles and the national titles.

Benefits

The benefits of membership are that members enjoy various types of competitive racing in a safe, and friendly environment.  Membership also provides insurance cover for cycling related accidents, both racing and training, see the VVCC (‘Insurance’) or AVCC web sites for full details on insurance.

The Eastern Veterans Cycling Club provides professional qualified first aid at all of our events for which a portion of your club membership fees is set aside.

Responsibilities

Membership does come with a few responsibilities, all members are expected to make every effort to make themselves familiar with the AVCC and VVCC racing rules and regulations, available on their respective web sites.  Members are also expected to familiarise themselves with the club’s racing regulations and practices which are available in the handbook.

Members are also expected to assist the club with the running of races by completing roster duty as prescribed by the club.  The roster is published on this site and it is the responsibility of members to check that roster for their name.

  • On becoming a Full Member , or other racing member,  you accept that you have an obligation to perform roster duty at any time during the 12 month membership period, regardless of whether it is ‘months since I have raced’.
  • While some discretion is used re. extreme distances, members may be rostered at any EVCC course.  Members should know that they are agreeing to be rostered anywhere, including Eildon and Seymour.
  • Roster duty will apply to all, regardless of racing preference ( eg a rider who prefers to just compete in crits,  may be called upon to marshal at a road race, and vise-versa )
  • To ensure fairness to all, penalties apply to members who fail to meet their obligation.  Members who fail to perform their rostered duty, or who fail to provide a suitable replacement, will not be permitted to race until such time as they have completed a turn of duty.
  • … and , of course,  there are options to find swaps etc. in such instances the member must inform the duty roster manager of said swap at the earliest opportunity.
